How-to: Getting Indexed in Under 24 hours!

September 10th, 2007 Posted in How-to

When you get a website or blog started, it can be a real pain having to wait for Google and other search engines to index your site. But, there is an easy way around this. The technique I am about to show you got a new blog of mine indexed and on page one in the Google SERPS for a keyword with ~2,000,000 competitors all in under 24 hours.

Shall we begin?

The first thing you need to do is grab a picture that is preferably relevant to your site. For example, if you have a soccer site you might use a picture of a soccer ball. Make sure this picture is YOURS, not one you found on Google. Don’t be lazy. If you don’t have an image that fits this criteria, go and take one.

Now the fun part. Fire up your browser, and get yourself to Wikipedia. Click on English so that we can navigate to the main page. If you don’t already have an account, sign-up for one. Once you’ve done so, get back to the main page.  If you do have an account, login and get back to the main page.

If you direct your eyes to the left of the page, under “toolbox” you will find a link for uploading images. Click it. You’re going to end up at a page where Wikipedia asks you where you got your image. Select the “It is from somewhere else” bullet point. You will then be taken to a form similar to the one above. First, browse for the file on your computer. Next, you want to enter the URL of your website in the summary box. This is what will be getting us indexed. Finally, choose the way in which you would like to license your image and upload the file.

And you’re done! Expect to see your site indexed in Google in under 24 hours! Remember, Wikipedia pages use the “no follow” attribute and therefore won’t pass authority to your site. Your SERP positions may vary from mine.
