Getting Caught Commenting With Aliases

October 22nd, 2007 Posted in Uncategorized

comments.jpgWhen you own a blog, there is not doubt that it’s a good feeling to have somebody stop by and drop off a comment. I mean, why wouldn’t it be? Comments are an excellent addition to any blog. They confirm that your visitors have an interest in your blog, add to your blog’s content, and indicate to others that your blog is somewhat popular. Sounds like a pretty good deal to me.

No Comments, No Happiness

Unfortunately, not all blogs can have a massive amount of comments. When you don’t have a great deal of traffic, it can be difficult to accumulate few, if any, comments. As you might guess, this does not settle well with many blog owners. So what happens? Their stupid side kicks in.

My Comments Are As Good As Anyone Else’s

In desperation, many bloggers turn to commenting on their own blogs to attempt to fill that void that the lack of comments has left. This is where the dirty work beings. The blogger will typically adopt some aliases and start commenting on his/her owns posts. In their minds, this will hopefully encourage actual visitors to participate seeing as others are active in commenting.

Your Visitors Aren’t Blind

It’s funny how some people think that they can get away with this type of deception. You might get away with it for a week, but once your visitors begin to spot irregular commenting activity, you can bet anything you want that they won’t be happy. It becomes quite obvious that something is abnormal when the same 6 people continue to comment on your blog, While, I’m sure most will be smarter than that, you visitors will begin to spot similarities between your comments and will deem them invalid.

Consequences For Getting Caught Red-Handed

Fun wouldn’t describe getting caught commenting on your own blog. The first emotion you should expect to feel is embarrassment. Anger should shortly follow after watching your traffic plummet. As I’ve said before, visitors don’t like it when your attempt to deceive them. Some might feel sorry for you and leave a comment, but the majority of them will ditch your blog without hesitation. Do yourself a favor and avoid playing these kind of games. They will cost you in the end.
