Repeatedly Writing Off-Topic Posts
October 18th, 2007 Posted in UncategorizedLet’s face it, sometimes as bloggers we have absolutely nothing to write about. We try to jot down and brainstorm ideas to no avail. Before you panic over your writer’s block, let me tell you that this is a very common occurence among bloggers. So what do most do when they are faced with this unfortunate advent? Go off topic.
Going Off Topic Is NOT A Bad Thing
Going off topic in itself is not a bad thing. In reality, it can actually be a good thing. Off-topic posts provide your readers with something different - something that may spark an additional interest in them. This is a good thing for you and you’re blog. The more interest you can captivate from your readers, the more successful your blog will become.
Don’t Make A Habit Out Of It
Although making off-topic posts from time to time can be beneficial to a blog, too much of it will turn visitors away. If your blog is supposed to be teaching people how to make money, that’s what it should be doing most of the time, not rambling on about hybrid cars. When you make a habit out of publishing irrelevant posts to your blog, readers will no longer have any interest in remaining as repeat visitors. They will notice that you are having trouble writing quality posts, and will slowly stop visiting your site. If worst comes to worst, they might conclude that your inability to write quality posts is a result of your lack of passion and lust for money. This could mean an immediate decline in traffic.
Keeping It Under Control
Before you go off to write another off-topic post on your blog, it would be a good idea to set some boundaries for yourself to prevent any catastrophes from occurring. Try to be reasonable in your allocation of posts for off-topic material. I would keep 30% or less of my monthly posts for off-topic material, while using the others for relevant and high-quality content.
