Seeking Sympathy From Your Visitors

October 10th, 2007 Posted in Uncategorized

Monetizing a new site is not easy work. You need to experiment with ad placement, build backlinks to raise those SERP, Alexa, and Technorati rankings increase your RSS subscribers, and so on… As you might have guessed, this is anything but fun. With that in mind, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that some people decide to cheat their way out of this workload. How do they go about doing such a thing? They exploit what some would call a vulnerability in human nature: emotion.

Learn To Make Money Online With A 10-Year Old

This is a very common and deceitful approach to monetizing a site. The idea is quite simple: an adult blogger takes on the identity of a kid and starts a blog. The blogger places a huge amount of emphasis on the kid’s age in hopes of garnering ad clicks and backlinks. Unfortunately, many of the blog’s visitors fall prey to these lies and willingly click on the ads or link back to the site.

The “My Dog Got Hit By The UPS Truck” Post

You can’t argue that crap happens in life. Whether its losing your cellphone at the grocery store or getting locked out of your car, crap is something everybody has to deal with on a daily basis. Some desperate bloggers have decided to take advantage of this fact. They post a fake sob story on their blog hoping that visitors feel sorry for them and either link back or click their ads.

My Take On These “Techniques”

Employing either one of these techniques is stupid and wasteful. If you are in actuality a 10 year old blogger, or have a true sob story to share with your visitors, by all means proceed. Otherwise, you have no business utilizing either of these tactics.
