As anybody even remotely familiar with SEO knows, the title of a website and it’s pages are extremely important. You want to have keywords that you are targeting in your titles to rank better in the SERPS. However, both Wordpress and Blogspot can be problematic in that regard.

You see, everytime you post on your blog, you are adding another page to your site. More pages = more titles with keywords = more traffic. The problem lies in the manner in which Wordpress and Blogger format your titles:

Blog Name - Post Title

As you might have guessed, this can really hurt your site SEO-wise. If worst comes to worst, your site’s pages might get listed under the “Supplementary Results” section in Google. Now that I’ve scared many of you, let me go ahead and fill you in on the good news. There are work-arounds for this problem for both Blogger and Wordpress! So without further adieu, here they are (Click for full images of the code):

Work-around for Blogger:

Replace the <title> tags with the following code:

Work-around for Wordpress:

Add your homepage’s title between these two lines of code, and then replace the <title> tags in header.php with the new code.
