Why Google Bans Innocent Publishers
December 2nd, 2007 Posted in Off-beatThrough the years, numerous Adsense publishers have been banned without proper justification from Google. As many of us know, bans usually stem from Google registering invalid clicks or impressions on a publisher’s account. Have you ever wondered whether Google’s actually telling publishers the truth when it sends out account termination emails? You’re about to find out.
Google Is A Business, Not A Non-Profit Organization
Too many of us forget that Google is a business – that’s right, an entity whose purpose it is to make money. Thus, we get embroiled in emotion whenever we hear that Google has terminated some innocent publisher’s account. Don’t be one of those people who attempt to denounce Google’s behavior in regards to account termination. They do it for a reason – or at least we hope.
Google Cares About Conversions
Here’s the real reason why many unsuspecting publishers get banned from Adsense – because their traffic simply doesn’t convert. While at many times this comes as a result of traffic coming from the wrong sources, other times it is simply the result of a site with very limited monetization potential. In either case, Google is losing money paying you for clicks when the traffic is doing nill its advertisers. So they ban you - harsh, but quite necessary.
Warning Signs
There are warning signs when an Adsense account is in jeopardy. The first phenomenon that should raise red flags is what Google calls “smart-pricing”. Smart-pricing occurs when your traffic is not converting and Google decides to give you a lower rate per click. That means your $1 clicks just became $.20 clicks. While this is not a definite sign that your account might get terminated, it definitely calls for some action. Such action might include trying to get more traffic from the search engines. If you are successful in your efforts, you’re daily earnings should begin to slowly rise and your account should once again be in good standing with Google.
Conversions Are Why People Can’t Cheat
If you haven’t put the puzzle pieces together, let me go ahead and put them together for you. Conversions are the main reason why people can’t cheat Adsense. You can send as much traffic and as many clicks from unique IP’s as you want. As long as none of that traffic converts, you are placing your account in danger.
Be smart and start earning with Adsense the right way. If you develop good content, get traffic from the right places and refrain from engaging in any shady activities, there is no reason to be concerned with your visitors not converting. You should rather be concerned with what to do with your revenue.
