I frequent many forums and often see people asking how they can increase search engine traffic to their site. While not the easiest thing to obtain, an increased amount of organic traffic to your site can to wonders to boost your income. If you do a few things on a consistent basis, there is no reason why you should not be able to rank highly for a good keyword. With enough elbow grease and determination, anything is possible.

Choosing a Keyword

The first thing you need to do is choose a keyword which you would like to rank highly for in the search engines. The best way to do this is by using Wordtracker’s Free Keyword tool. Type in a general keyword that fits your blog (ex. if you have a golf blog, type in golf). Wordtracker will spit out a list of keywords that relate to the golfing niche. Try to find one that is relevant to your site and has at least 500 searches/day. Copy and paste it into Google. If it returns less than 300,000 results, then that’s the one you wan’t to use. Otherwise, keep searching.

Writing Content Around The Keyword

Now that you’ve chosen your keyword, you need to develop some content around it. Let’s return to our golfing example. Pretend the keyword we chose was “golf clubs”. We would write up a post about golf clubs being SURE to include the keyword in the post title and in several parts of the post. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT exaggerate when including the keyword in the post. Write naturally and let the keyword fall where it shall. If search engines find that the keyword density is really high on your post, you will end up huring your SERP rankings. Be careful!

If your blog already contains some posts on the particular keyword, you may skip this step. I would, however, recommend that you glance over the posts to check that the keyword is somwhere in the title.

Building Backlinks

This is the part that many don’t enjoy doing, building backlinks. You can go about building backlinks in numerous ways: commenting on blogs, writing articles, submitting to directories, etc. However you decide to build links to your site, you need to remember one thing: the majority of your links need to have the keyword as the anchor text. Be sure to add a little variety by using some other anchor texts such as your site’s name. This keeps the search engines from getting suspicious.

Waiting

Now all that’s left to do is wait for the search engines to index your posts. If you already had posts releated to your keyword, you should see them begin to climb in SERP rankings. As your SERP rankings climb, you will also see a climb in the overall traffic to your site.

Repetition Is Key

If you’re satisfied with the traffic boost your site recieved, you should without a doubt repeat this process to get even more traffic. Remeber, traffic is money online. The more you implement this technique, the more money you will make. Search engines bring unbeatable traffic your way. Take advantage of it and you’ll be laughing to the bank.
