Buying Into The Ad Myth

ads.jpgThere is a common myth that always manages to keep some bloggers from reaching their full potential income. What is this myth? That ads will drive visitors away. This belief is flawed in so many respects that it is still beyond my comprehension as to why people buy it. It’s time that I debunk this myth.

Visitors Aren’t Bugged By Ads

Some of you might be shocked to find that visitors aren’t exactly bugged by ads. What DOES bug them is when an enormous amount of ads are placed on a site with little quality content. As long as you give visitors what they want content wise, they could care less about the ads you have up on your site. That doesn’t mean go wild and use up every pixel above the fold for advertising. Be reasonable, don’t overdo it.

Ads Can Complement Your Content

When used incorrectly, ads can degrade a visitor’s experience on your site or blog. However, when ads are used correctly, they can enchance a visitors’ experience. Let’s use Google’s contextual advertising program, Adsense, for example. When a visitors sifts through your content and is sparked with some interest, they will undoubtedly look for some extra resources on the particular topic. This is where Adsense comes into play. Your visitors might spot the ad block and see something which is of relevance to the content they just read. They will then click on the ad and hopefully find something that expands upon the information they found in the post. This is good for them and even better for you.

Consequences For Buying Into This Myth

Some people just don’t listen and decide to buy into the “Ads drive traffic away” myth. If you’re buying into this garbage, your definitely missing out. Don’t be stupid and place ads at the bottom of your site to convince yourself that you’re not a believer of this myth. The people who KNOW that ads don’t drive visitors away place ads with easy visibility in mind. Ultimately, these are the people making money online.
