It’s 6:00 pm. You just got back from picking up your kids at daycare and your wife called in to say she’d be late. That means you have to cook dinner. It doesn’t help that you have an appointment early in the morning for Dental Veneers. The last thing on your mind is updating your blog. Nevertheless, you realize that it’s a must and take 5 minutes before going to bed to write up a post. You may think you have beat the odds, but in reality you haven’t.
Blogging Is Not A Game
Whatever some may say, blogging is not a game. When you manage to squeeze in a post at the end of the day, you don’t win anything. Unlike a board game, every action you take is constantly being monitored by your visitors. While you may be able to pull a fast one on your friends during a game of monopoly, your blog’s visitors will react to your mischveious doings.
Your Visitors WILL Understand
If you have absolutely no time to post on a given day, refrain from posting altogether. While you should have some back-up posts saved in case of emergencies, as I’ve mentioned before, not posting for one day is not a huge deal. If this it the first time in weeks, your visitors will most likely understand. The first time in days is another story altogether.
There’s Always Tomorrow
Just as in school, when you play hooky you have the next day to pay for it. What do I mean by paying for it? Substituting that 400-word post for a 700-word one. While this may seem like an excessive punishment, it’s truly not. You have to repay your visitors for going through a day without having the opportunity to read one of your insightful posts. Don’t restrict yourself to just expanding on one post. You can write two separate posts to make up for the lost one.
Final Thoughts
To wrap up this post, let me just once again re-iterate how important it is that you don’t rush on your posts. Posts are the heart of each and every blog and thus need to be kept at a very high caliber. If you put love into your posts, your blog will undoubtedly thrive.
